Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad

Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad in Laconia, New Hampshire, offers fun for the whole family - especially train enthusiasts of all ages. The railroad, once part of the Boston, Concord and Montreal Railroad, was built in the mid-1800s. Historic trains travel along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, passing by some of the area's most beautiful resort homes. There are two destinations that you can explore, Weirs Beach and Lakeport. Riders can disembark at either place, and you can add on a Hobo Picnic Lunch in advance to enjoy. During the summer months, special events take place such as balloon artists coming aboard to make cool creations for the kids.

Standard scenic ride tickets are $12 to $18. Children 2 and under ride free.

Hours -

Trains run every day during July and August, on the hour or half-hour. From May through June and September through October, scenic train rides are available on weekends and holidays. The first train leaves at 10:30 a.m., and the last at 3 p.m., unless a special train is scheduled.

What is the duration of the shortest tour?

The shortest train ride is the 3 p.m. to Weirs Beach, the most popular beach in the Lakes Region. The train ride consists of a one-hour long round trip journey. All other rides - to Weirs Beach and also to Meredith - are two hours round trip.

Is there a special Christmas train?

Yes, through the Winnipesaukee's sister railroad, the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln, and it's called the Santa Train. Tickets are $20 for coach class and $25 for first class. Hot cocoa, cookies and a special gift from Santa are included, along with a visit from North Pole elves and Ol' Saint Nick himself! The Santa Train has just nine runs over the weekend holidays starting after Thanksgiving, so tickets go quickly.
